Mission Statement
The mission of the Regional Institute for Scholastic
Excellence, R.I.S.E., as a vehicle of the Safe Schools pursuant to 105 ILCS
5/13A of the Illinois School Code, is to facilitate a meaningful, worthwhile,
and structured education by preparing all students for continued success in
school and society.

The Regional Institute for Scholastic Excellence is a
program established as a result of P.A.89-383, effective 8-18-95 and P.A.
89-636, effective 8-9-96. It is an alternative school program for disruptive
youth in grades 6-12 within the educational service region of south suburban
Cook County. South Cook ISC 4 operates the Safe Schools Program pursuant to 105
ILCS 5/13A of the Illinois School Code. The SCISC program uses a wide network
of resources and services designed to address the needs of each student through
comprehensive planning, monitoring, and assessment. There is an array of
services, which includes comprehensive individual planning and goal setting,
academic instruction, vocational services, life and social skill development,
individual and family support services and character development.
The Regional Institute for Scholastic Excellence
serves students from grades 6 through 12 who are eligible for suspension or
expulsion, or who have been suspended or may be expelled, due to gross
misconduct. It is offered to students by the local public school districts
serviced by the South Cook Intermediate Service Center #4 as an optional
educational opportunity for students who may be expelled, are suspended, or at
risk of failure or dropout.
Program Objectives:
The desired outcomes for students participating in
the program are:

To transition back to the regular school
environment, acquire a diploma or GED, or transition to further education,
training, or employment.

To decrease drug use, violent acts, and/or behaviors
associated with suspension and expulsion, to decrease student suspensions
and/or expulsions.

To equip students with skills for successful group
interaction, communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, decision
making, increase of self-worth, and acceptance of responsibility.

To acquire the education and skills necessary to
return to their home school and/or secure good jobs and become productive
members of society in an increasingly competitive economic environment.
