School Improvement
Technology brings so much good to our classrooms and to our personal lives, but not without a price. Children and teens have unlimited access to the Internet, social networking apps, violent and addictive video games and age-inappropriate movies, all easily available at the touch of a finger. Effective safeguards are in place for what happens with our kids using technology in school. Of a more urgent concern is what happens outside of school. Often these issues are brought to administrators for handling from a discipline standpoint, a counseling standpoint, and even at times from a criminal standpoint. One prevalent problem is social media. Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Houseparty, and other apps are routinely used by children and teens. Access can be gained from many devices including smartphones, gaming systems, tablets, ipads and smart TVs. Our children are exposed to bullying, victimization, violence and hate at a very young age. The social-emotional issues that ensue from use of social media have resulted in the highest rate of child depression, anxiety and suicide than ever before seen. Knowledge is power. This course will discuss the impact of technology use on the brain, predators and prey, haters and their victim
